This unique coffee shop is located on Le Van Luong Street, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. The owner of the shop is Mr. Tran Anh Huy, born in 1992. To implement this business idea, Mr. Huy bought more than 5 tons of sand in Nha Trang for 5 million VND per ton.
After studying many shortcomings of the existing beach coffee model in Ho Chi Minh City, the owner decided to invest in more types of stones to create a natural landscape.
An interesting point that makes customers excited when coming to the restaurant are the marine aquariums of all sizes. The largest tank is made of tempered glass. Guests can sit on top, chat with friends, and watch fish swimming below.
Marine aquariums are modeled after undersea scenes, with schools of colorful fish. Mr. Huy said, the most difficult thing when running this coffee business model is sifting sand and filtering water from marine aquariums. This job takes a lot of time and must be done at night after the shop closes. The total investment cost up to this point is nearly 1 billion VND.
Customers coming to the restaurant often bury their feet under a 20cm layer of sand to relax. A customer named Phuong (in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City), said that this was the second time coming to the shop but was very interested in shops with this business model. The marine aquariums here, according to Phuong, are designed quite close to customers.
There is a small vase on the table so guests can watch and play with the fish. Tran Anh Huy confidently said that with the current number of customers, it is expected that the restaurant will pay back its capital within 3 years.
In addition to the ocean aquarium, the shop is also equipped with many tools for guests to comfortably play with the sand. Mr. Huynh Van Thiet, a consultant who designs and builds cafes and restaurants, said that currently, the beach sand coffee model is quite popular but also has many risks. The number of shops is small and the demand for customers is high, so it is understandable that the owner of this cafe is confident. But in the future, maintaining operations is quite expensive, customers are only curious at first because the sand is still clean. After a period of operation, the sand will become dirty and black, requiring replacement of new sand, which is both expensive and time-consuming.
Drinks here cost from 16,000 to 36,000 VND. The water cup is shaped like a small fish tank. Previously, the beach sand cafe model appeared in Ho Chi Minh City, but most of it was only popular in the beginning due to curious customers. Later, customers gradually decreased because this model was no longer new.
Even though the restaurant has 2 beach spaces and a wooden floor, customers still prefer to sit on the sand. The staff said that the restaurant has many rooms, but the beach decoration room is always full of customers. Every day, the restaurant’s “mini beach” receives 200-300 people.
